I hope you are all enjoying new 1.10 patch.
I don't think there are many people playing Bowaon this
time, how many 1.10 Bowzon guides have you seen on D2
forum.. humm none :)
Also I've seen lots of questions asked on Skill &
GamePlay forums.
So I just want to share my experience and information
with you guys.
I hope my humble guide can make something clear and be
helpful for future Zon players.
-=General info=-
My Zon's name is Avina and her level is 95; right now
she is ranked 100ish on overall rank and 14th on Zon rank(USEAST).
She uses Strafe and Freezing Arrow as main attack skills,
and uses Act2 Might Merc and Maxed Valkyrie as helpers.
-=Skills=-
Max Strafe : Main Attack, life/mana leech
Max Freezing Arrow : Main Attack, damages to PI monsters
Max Cold Arrow : Synergy to Freezing Arrow
Max Valkyrie : 2700+ life Warrior :)
Maxing Penetrate
1 on Every Passive Skills
1 on Every Pre-required Skills
No Javelin Skills
Cold or Fire
1) Both are fine but Mav set gives you +20% to Cold Damage.
2) I really like Freezing effect. Once you freeze monsters,
your party can take them out easily.
3) Tough monsters are fire immuned; Minotaurs, Minions
of Destruction. So I think Cold skill is more useful than
fire for Baal runners.
Cold/Ice/Freezing which to max?
Ice Arrow doesn't increas damage of other skills, it only
increases Freeze Length.
You will fire fast enought to freeze monsters until they
die, so you don't need extra freeze length.
--> Max Cold Arrow and Freezing Arrow
Multi or Strafe?
Recommened IAS setting for Multishot with Grand Matron
Bow is 150% IAS(8 Frame).
But the problem is there's no way you can make 150% with
Full Mav set.
Jeweled Diadem (45) + Jeweled Armor (15) + Amulet (20)
+ Shael Bow (60) = 140%
On the other hand, you can leach Blazing 2 Frame Strafe
with 120%IAS. And this will give you one free choice
of Jeweling or ammy.
Also Full Mav sets give you +6 Skill Bonus to Bow and
Xbow Skill tree, so only 1 point on Multi Skill you can
shot 7+ arrows, this is just enough.
Valkyrie
She fights way better than other newbie characters :p
Full upgraded Valkyrie + High level Merc are a good tank
team.
Well some people argue that they don't need Valky because
they are going to play party only but you never know!
:(
You never know whether you are going to play with good
players or rookie players.. you never know you are going
to play with Barbs & Summon Necro & Pally or some
7 weak sorceress who just stay back and Meteo-ing Blood
Lords and Minon of Destructions(idiot!!)
My Valkyrie saved me numerous times from those Minotaurs,
Snakes, Oblivian Knights & Mages, Minion of Destructions
and etc.
Trust me I am lv95 Bowazon :) I've never regreated about
spending lv20 on Valkyrie.
Why only 1 on Passives
Full Mav set gives you total +6 to Passive skills.
With 7 on Passive skills you can have pretty much 45-50%
of everything(Dodge, Critical, Pierce, Evade)
Maxing Penetrate?
That's just my choice. You can max Decoy to make Super
Valkyrie, or you can invest skills on Critical Strike.
More Pierce, more Dodge/Evade/Avoid are fine also.

Str : enought to wear Mavina Armor(122 with item)
Dex : rest of them
Vit : enought to survive in Hell(100-200)
Nrg : base
*Caution* Due to display bug, if you are using
+str charms to wear items, other people may not
see your gears.
It's okay to save some stats but come on :) you got a
look cool. Throw away those Str charms.
+str from ammy, boots and etc are okay.

8% Carrion Wind Ring
Dual Leech rare ring
WaterWalk Boots
Socketing and other items are up to you, just don't forget
to make 120% IAS for 2Frame Strafe.
Merc's Gears
I highly recommend to use Act2 Offensive Might Merc.
He can cover low physical damage of Mav set.
Reaper's Toll
Tal Mask
Sazabi set Balog Skin
Some people have hard time to leveling him up but it's
not that hard.
If you hire him from NM, his lv will be -45+ then take
him to Nightmare River of Flame, Chaos Sanctuary and WorldStone
to level him up.
He will be lv 65+ pretty quick in that way.
After he got exceptional/elite gears take him to hell
and lv him with you.
I am sure you can prepare lot better gears than my merc
:(
Equip him with some physical damage reduce gears they
help a lot;Vamp Gaze, Shaftstop or Leviathan(lucky merc)
6)Vs Monster Tips
There are not much to explain how to play bowazon.
Just summon Valky and use combination of Strafe and Freezing
Arrow.
Shot-shot-shot-drink some pots-shot-shot-shot.. It's that
easy :)
First, use Freezing Arrow to freeze monsters, if your
mana runs out use Strafe to recharge it.
If other party members give you good buff like BO, Fanatic,
Concentration, Meditation or etc.. use Freezing Arrow
more often.
Again Freezing Arrow helps a lot.
Vs Souls
Cast Decoy at the end of the screen to detect them. When
you see Lightnings are penetrating your Decoy and destory
her, that means Souls are ahead :)
Use Freezing Arrow to kill them, even if they are out
of screen just shoot FA you can still damage them.
You will consume lots of mana pots eventually.
Tank with Decoy/Maxed Valky and High Lv merc with good
resist.
Vs Minotaurs(Moon Lords)
They are just tought; They got Frenzy skill, high def/life
and they don't even get chilled.
Let your merc and Valky tank, stay behind them and shot
Strafe(to Knockback) and Freezing Arrows like crazy.
You will thank to maxed Valkyrie :)
Vs Blood Lords(Vampires), Oblivian Mages(Undead Mage)
They are cold immune and move around a lot, so strafe
won't work against them.
Chase and trap them against wall so they can't move around.
Then kill one by one with your merc. Use normal arrow
to kill them.
Vs Baal
Baal is the toughest monster for me. Now he has Damage
Reduce and high % blocking chance.
And I didn't max GA :( that makes it harder.
If you wanna do Baal with Bowazon, max GA and get highe
resist.
7)Good
1. Mavina set give you pretty much every gears, so you
don't have to worry about equipping your zon.
2. It's easy to complete. The hard parts are Bow and Diadem
but compared to Griswold, Tal Armor, IK armor they are
not that expensive :)
3. Gives good +skill and +resist - It's hard to have high
skill and good resist with Bowazon, because you have to
think about IAS before resist. Also there
are not many uniques which have IAS and resist together.
Mav set gives you +100 to All resist and +6 Bow/Passive
skills. => Nice :)
4. Looks cool & sexy - Beautiful lady in glowing silver
armor :) hummm
8)Bad
1. Low physical damage :(
You won't make big damage with M'avina set.. if you are
expecting 3000-4000 damage with strafing I am sorry..
(a)Strafe and Multishot now only make 3/4 of weapon damage
This is @$%@*^$ thus your normal shot will make higher
damage than lv 28 Strafe.
Again this is 3$^#%&#^(#* and that is main reason
why people say Bowazon nefted bad.
(b)Mavina bow is only 188% Enhanced.
2. Can't get 8 frame with Normal attack/Multi Shot/Guided
Arrow.
As I mentioned, you will have maximum 140% IAS with full
Mav set(which is 10% short from next breakpoint 150% =
8 Frame = 3.1 Attacks per Second)
So if you are going to use Multi shots, you will fire
slower than other Bowazons.
3. Helm is little bit expensive. Just a little bit...

I understand that Multi and Strafe fires lots of arrow
so their damage have to be somewhat lower.
But I mean.. cutting of 25% of damage is just too much.
If it was 4/5 damage or 17/20 that will be better.. 3/4
is really tough :(
Beside that I think Bowazon still doing great job.
Thanks to all of my Bnet friends, without your help I
couldn't make lv95 zon.
