Shadows with Trapper Builds
Shadow Masters get to be a royal pain later on in regular fights as their traps cancel out yours. The traps they use will generally be weaker than yours, she has the bad habit of dropping traps the critters are immune to and once they drop one trap you don't want you need to drop five more to get rid of it but then they just keep dropping those junk traps which is a serious drain on your mana. If you want a shadow use the Shadow Warrior and swap to a different skill after you drop your traps so she doesn't mess things up on you. The Shadow Warrior isn't the best fighter but at least you can keep her from screwing your traps up and will soak up some damage for you. You can get by with out a shadow if you keep leveling that merc, keep him alive (shift + belt_hotkey to have him drink that potion) as well as protect him with Cloak of Shadows and Mind Blast. The only time you'd really miss that shadow would be in act boss fights, if that's all you intend to do with your trapper later on you could get the Shadow Master and deal with her annoyances while leveling but boss fights are doable with just your merc or on your own once you get used to it (the Ancients would be the worst since there are three of them).
Now if the matter of shadow traps cancelling out your traps turns out to be an error then in possible future updates to the 1.10 patch her traps may then no longer cancel out yours. If that happens a Shadow Master would be very helpful and make a trapper's life easier, you could still get by without one though and have stronger traps because of it.
