Dealing with Critters Immune to your Attack:

If all you really do is use physical attacks this would be physical immunes, for pure lightning trappers it would be lighting immunes and so on. Any how It's always good to have at least two good means of attack when you play alone to any real degree but the targets you have to kill generally aren't immune to any one thing. There are at least three exceptions in Hell though, the Ancients are each by nature immune to one element, one fire, another lightning and the last cold. Don't think there are any others though. Aside from those three you could just avoid fights with targets immune to your attack and restart a game to reroll the properties on the mini-bosses if they get that property. Avoiding them can be done in different ways. You could just run like crazy and loose them, you could lead them away a bit cast Cloak of Shadows then run away so by the time it wears off you're long gone. That last one will not help with anything stronger than regular critters or minions so with them you could throw up a town portal, lead them away from it then run to the nearest way point, go to town then back through your TP. You could also Mind Blast the group so they start attacking each other then run off before that wears off. As Hell fights with an attack that does little damage can take a long time avoiding them by even the town portal method could be faster than using a weak attack.

If you really must deal with them there's Venom to add poison damage and Phoenix Strike to add different elemental damage for physical melee builds. For melee and blade skill builds you could also get a thrown weapon or bow with lots of elemental damage other than poison switch on Venom and attack from range. A good Phoenix Strike build shouldn't have much of a problem with this then for lightning trappers you can pick up Fire Blast which can do a surprising amount of damage, fire trappers would be stuck with the lightning damage from Death Sentry or could add Lighting Sentry to that for more lightning damage. Then Death Sentry attacks with half physical and half fire damage when it blows corpses which is something every assassin should have that plans to go on there own much. A good merc can add a nice amount of physical damage while you toss out elemental then lastly there is the obvious one, don't play alone, bring someone along that has one or more damage types and if it is just the one make sure it's not the same as yours.
