Monster Resistance - Part 1:

While put in the assassin FAQ thread this applies to all classes. The idea here is to see how often a damage type will have its effectiveness cut in half to being fully resisted (immunity). This would help in selecting skills for solo play and making a highly effective party for planed group play. An organized group where each aids the others will let you rip through anything very well and is highly recommended. Usually Battle.net group play is very random and everyone is out for themselves, snatching items for their other characters or to trade with even though it would have done more good for the other players in the group. If you can't get an organized group together you really may as well stick to solo as the typical unorganized chaos you get on Battle.net can be a serious pain.

General Notes:

  • The single resistance/immunity charts look at those that have 50% or higher resistance to just one element while all the others are below 50%. The multiple resistance and immunity charts show those that have more than one resistance at 50% or higher.
  • Typically when there are multiple resistances one will be an immunity while the other resisted elements will be around 50%-75%. Then with some that have a number of resisted damage types they may not be immune to any one type, just highly resistent to all of them (about 75% each).
  • With physical damage you first must beat their defences which have about tripled since 1.09 then they could also have a chance to block as well with some blocking at around 50% so standard physical attacks are not a sure thing and items that boost your attack rating would be helpful.
  • Not all classes can do much in the way of pure magic damage or perhaps any at all.
  • If using elemental damage you should pick up an item with the necromancer skill Lower Resist on it or play with either a necromancer using that curse or a paladin using Conviction as it will make your attacks far more effective.
  • Considering how much damage monsters can do now and how much their life has been boosted it would be best to just try to avoid the targets you can't kill too well rather than pick away at them with weak attacks. At the rate some regain health low damage attacks may end up not getting you too far at all.
  • The paladin skill Conviction is supposed to be able to crack immunities so a paladin in a group with players using elemental skills (does not seem to effect physical or magic resistance) would be very helpful.
  • All of this is based on the way things are in 1.10 patch and information listed on the Arreat Summit, future versions of 1.10 may tinker around with resistance levels and change all this info to some degree.

Notes:

  • The "The Critters with Multiple Immunities" chart is separate from the two before it as it just shows which damage types each of the 21 are immune to as well as which type and variations they are. Most as you can see are found in Act V and are the guest monsters.
  • The one creature with above 50% resistance to all is the Warped One variety of Fallen which has all at 75% resistance so items and skills that reduce or ignore some of their resistance would be helpful. The Act V guest version is weaker actually with all but physical at 75%, physical is at just 25% with that one.
  • At times Nightmare and even Normal versions can be in some ways worse than Hell versions as while they may not be immune to any one damage type they can be annoyingly resistent to multiple to most damage types while their Hell counterparts could be immune to one and have little to no resistance to others.
  • Skills and items with Lower Resist charges would be helpful as while they may be immune to one and highly resistant to one or more others they generally will not have multiple immunities. There are some that do have multiple immunities though but those typically are immune to poison and something else usually lightning (out of the 21 critters with dual immunities 11 are immune to lightning and poison).
