3. Zealot Elummoner build. | 3/29/2004 8:24:43 AM PST

"Hit me, I like it" :)
Bloodshrike
v 1.10
Zealot Elummoner build.

No, I'm not into S&M. However, that's the philosophy you should take when thinking of a summoner druid. A Thorns Merc is your friend.
I wouldn't go pure summoner, instead, go with melee/summoner/and 1 elemental attack.

Essential Equipment:

Passion runeword weapon - A Phase blade would be good for this, since it's indestructable, and most of your damage will come from crushing blow. You need + 3 to all skills to get a 5 swing Zeal.

Q u o t e:
Passion
4 Socket Weapons
Dol + Ort + Eld + Lem
+25% Increased Attack Speed
+160-210% Enhanced Damage
50-80% Bonus To Attack Rating (varies)
+75% Damage To Undead
+50 To Attack Rating Against Undead
Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
+1 To Berserk
+1 To Zeal

Hit Blinds Target +10
Hit Causes Monster To Flee 25%
75% Extra Gold From Monsters
Level 3 Heart of Wolverine (12 Charges)

This is one of the sweetest runewords they've come up with. With this weapon, ANY character class can play melee if they want. Bonus to AR means a character with 1000 AR would have 1800 after the 80% bonus, while the Berzerk allows you to deal with Physical Immune monsters. This will allow you to get off crushing blows really, really fast, so you can take down monsters even though you’re only doing about 300 damage in Hell.

You think you’ll have AR issues?
My melee summoner druid has 4492 AR, and usually about 70-75 percent chance to hit in Hell, without AR skill enhancers like Penetrate.
This is with 286 points in dexterity (equipment makes up 41 of those dex points), 387 attack rating from Raven frost and charms, and a perfect 80% AR bonus Passion. You also get 10% AR bonus for every + to skill item you have, and it's important to have at least +3 to all skills anyway, for a 5 hit Zeal.

Sigons shield - +1 to skills, good blocking (64% for druid). Socket with a P diamond.

Highlord's Wrath ammy - + 1 to skills, 20% IAS, Deadly Strike, lightning resist...SWEET

Naj armor - 45% Damage Taken Goes To Mana/+1 To All Skills /All Resistances +25/+65 To Life. I socketed mine with a P ruby, for 103 life for Oak Sage to more than double. Use Skin of Viper Magi while leveling.
Duriels shell is another option. The resists/scaling life are very nice, and cannot be frozen could free up Ravenfrost from a ring slot. However, scaling life and + to Vitality items won’t be acted upon by Oak sage, so Naj armor is very attractive.

Ravenfrost ring – AR/Dex/cold damage/cold absorb/cannot be frozen. You have pathetic physical damage, so don’t worry about life leach.

Dwarfstar ring – 15% Fire absorb/life. Good to have on.

Blood crafted gloves - Get 20% IAS, 10% Crush blow gloves, and the life leach doesn't matter much.

Goblin Toe/Gorerider boots - Gorerider has 15% crush blow, so between Gorerider and Guillaumes, you have 50% crush blow. The deadly strike is meaningless to this build, but the Open Wounds helps out.

Guillaumes Face (Orphan set) – 35% crush blow/15% deadly strike/15 Strength/30% FHR. Go with Jalal’s Mane if you use Goblin Toe boots. You can make up the run/walk with charms, and you’d have 35% crushblow between Goblin Toe and your gloves. You wouldn’t have a crushblow every other hit like with 50% crushblow, but 35% is still 1 every 3 hits. This would allow more + to druid skills, and a lot more resists.

Merc:
2 to consider. Since we're not putting many points into Spirit wolves, Dire wolves will have lower defense (not that they'd have very much in Hell anyway..). You could use a Might merc to boost the damage of the wolves and yourself, or you could use a Thorns merc. http://www.diabloii.net/townsfolk/warrior-combat.shtml
Hired in Nightmare, he reaches his cap of level 17 Thorns by level 55.
Helm: I recommend a P Rubied Tal Rasha helm for 98 to life/good resists/10% life leach
Armor: Hwannin's armor is nice for the 100 to life, 10% chance to cast lvl 3 Static Field on being struck. With those 2 pieces of equipment, and a level 24 Oak sage, my Thorns merc has 4512 life at level 81. If using Duriels Shell on your merc, be aware that items with scaling life don’t get the life multiplied by Oak Sage. You’d get more of a life bonus from Lionheart than Duriels, since Lionheart gives you a flat 50 to life.
Weapon: Your choice. Bonehew, Crescent Moon, even an Honor weapon would be good, since the + 1 to skills would boost his Thorns aura.

Oh yeah, about the Thorns Aura. At level 17, it returns 890% damage taken(and since this is 1.10, there's no 50% global physical resist in Hell). The monsters take back all that damage. This is why I titled the build "Hit me, I like it."

Amp Damage…….Be thankful when you get cursed. When you get cursed, your wolves take double damage. Thorns returns a % of the damage dealt. So monsters will quickly kill themselves on your wolves.

Skills
20 Oak Sage - Obviously :)
1 in Raven (with + skills, this is nice because it blinds monsters occasionally)
1 in Spirit wolf
1 in Poison Creeper
1 in Carrion Vine (useful for life, and clearing away enemies so they can't be resurrected)
5-20 in Dire Wolf (for more Dire wolf Life). With 6x + to summon Grand Charms, even 5 points is enough.
1-20 in Summon Grizzly (for more Dire wolf damage/Bear damage). I’d advise going with only 1 point though, since the wolves are just there to soak up damage. I do advise 1 point though, for special situations where there’s one big monster that kills your wolves too quickly to deal with (Duriel is a notable example of this.)

Optional: going with around the minimum I put on summon points, you could max out Hurricane and synergies.

You could go all summons, but you'd have to load up on hella elemental damage in your equipment and inventory, and Hurricane is just so darned helpful anyway.
If you maxed Dire Wolves and Summon Grizzly
http://66.98.154.13/Skills.html
with + 3 to skills, and 6 summoning Grand charms, you'd have a Dire wolf that does 567-619 damage, with 1105 life in Hell. Unlike a Necro though, you only have 3 of them. I prefer to have them serve as a spiky meat shield.

1 Arctic Blast
1 Cyclone Armor (Hurricane will last for 12 seconds with 1 point in Cyclone Armor. Pointless to put points in to increase duration, when you can just recast). Although it does have a synergy with Tornado.
20 Twister
20 Tornado
20 Hurricane

Leveling tips
Get Oak Sage up to level 10 asap.
Dire Wolves up to level 5
5 into Twister
5 into Tornado
All before level 30

Reasons for Hurricane....It's another type of damage, so when you go up against a physical immune, you're not screwed. The Berzerk on Passion will help out against PI's, but I like having at least 3 different types of damage.
It also slows down all the enemies around you, allowing you and your wolves to attack more freely.
Tornado is a nice skill to have when your merc and wolves are getting hit hard by Claw Vipers, and Hurricane won’t do anything to them (cold immune). Back off while the Vipers are entertaining your wolves, and pummel them with a few Tornadoes.
Edit: Actually, you’re doing about 300 physical damage, so Berzerk won’t do that much. J

Enjoy. :)
BTW, this character finished Hell solo at lvl 78. No rushing whatsoever. I played straight through, and didn’t really stop anywhere to level.
